The Sorbs/Wends

During the second phase of the migration period, in the sixth century AD, many Slavic tribes from the East came to settle in the region between the Baltic Sea and the Erzgebirge, or Ore Mountains. Today, the federal states of Brandenburg and Saxony are home for about 60.000 Sorbs and Wends. They have retained their distinct language and culture throughout the centuries despite many social changes.
